The First Week.
One week down (almost). I think I’m going to try to do Friday wrap-up posts about my 2013 December Daily album. I’ll be putting the majority of time into my album over the weekends and I like the idea of doing a little post-mortum each Friday to see where I’m at and where I want to go for the week ahead. All 2013 December Daily posts can be seen here.
One of the major things I worked on this week was finishing the setup of the album. Last week I set up all of my foundation pages, as well as setting up my studio space so that I could be as efficient as possible while working on this album. Early this week I added a couple of things to the album itself to make it even easier on myself.
Nifty things about the album
This Days of the Week notepad insert in the front of the album. I love this thing, and I’ll definitely be carrying it over to next year’s Project Life album. I have a specific place where I can write down my notes, and then rip off the paper and stick it in one of the pockets until I have the time to work on the album itself.
I added extra page protectors to the back of the album — this way I can easily create inserts and not have to worry about looking around for where I put the extra page protectors. Keeping everything in arms reach (and minimal supplies) really help to keep this a manageable project.
On the back cover of the album I adhered a Basic Grey Capture Pocket — these things are super cool and really sturdy — to hold my 30 Days of Lists prompts. I covered them up with a 4×6 journaling card so that I could still be surprised daily by each prompt. I think I’ll keep my list of prompts in the back of this album, even after I’m done completing it — it’s a great piece of memorabilia.
Maybe I’m just a nerd like that, but I really love the interactivity of mini-albums. I love pockets, envelopes, hidden journaling, inserts, openings, and all that good stuff.
Hopefully I’ll be able to add a lot of fun stuff to this album. I’m really excited for what December has in store.
Pages & detail shots
I wanted my Day One spread to try to pull together all of the colors and elements that I’ll be using throughout my album. I used a lot of white, with pops of pink, aqua, silver, and gold. I also added a transparency to the top right of the page. I’m using several transparencies throughout the album to give it a lighter feel. Each of my days will be marked by the 30 Days of lists journaling cards I designed.
I’m using my Canon Selphy printer to print out my pictures every couple of days. I love the freedom of being able to print whenever I want, directly from my iPhone. Also — aren’t these Kelly Purkey stickers just fantastic?
Keeping it simple. This is my mantra. If I didn’t have a big story, then I’m just moving on to the next day. I’m letting 30 Days of Lists help me to provide a focus for the days where nothing happened (or where I was sick with the flu).
I used the ABM photo app to add this cute skull & crossbones to my thermometer photograph. One of my favorite new techniques is to take photographs with extra white space so that I can add some embellishments (either digital or physical) directly onto the photos.
Not everything needs a long-winded story. I didn’t want to bog down my album with exactly how gross I’ve been feeling all week, but it is a part of my December story. I felt the need to document it, and so I tried to do it in the most positive fashion. Even a small amount of embellishing can help to brighten up a spread.
I actually have a story that I want to add here at the bottom of Day 3, but it didn’t come to me until just now. I spent most of the day in bed, and so I was content with leaving the page as is (that snowflake is awesome, especially with the flair). But j read me an awesome bedtime story (prepping for his 3rd graders) and I’d really love to capture that moment.
