The following is a guest post from rukristin Creative Team member Nulls. Today Nulls is sharing her December Daily(tm) Art Journal approach.
I have always wanted to do a December Daily Journal. I even created a whole board about it on Pinterest a few years ago, but I wasn’t sure if I had the follow through to complete one. It seemed like so much work and I also wasn’t confident enough that I have an interesting enough life or Christmas season to make one, plus I kept hearing about how time-consuming and difficult it is.
I didn’t know that rukristin, had made a December Daily for the last nine years, so when I mentioned it to her, she encouraged me to do it. My best friend, boyfriend, and I have had a tough year. He has been very ill, but is now improving and this seemed like a good way to make sure that we did fun traditions this year, and I would document it. I took the challenge and decided to make one.
Well, I love it..and I have so enjoyed the whole process of getting the book ready to go in December. I found an old book, learned how to take it apart, punch holes in it, install grommets and insert rings to put it together. I started gathering Christmas doodads, and soon my work area (and other areas in our house) were feeling cheery.
I started making pages-using cardstock, cardboard, wrapping paper, and anything else I could find. I numbered each page, giving each day two pages. I am using the rukristin “Currently” notes to document my days, also added a calendar, envelopes, going to draw in it, journal in it and hopefully add pictures and more ephemera as I go.
I am already planning Christmas fun and ideas that I want in the book, decorating, making cookies, hanging wreaths, getting our tree, looking at lights, lots of things we weren’t able to do last year. Not just because I want to put it in a book, but the book has made me almost giddy about enjoying the season! I highly recommend you join Kristin and I, and do a December Daily, its making me more excited for December than I thought I would be. Now please excuse me while I go dig out my Christmas albums and make a hot chocolate!
